Privacy Policy for ChatMask - Blur Chat & Privacy Screen
Last Updated: February 2026
ChatMask ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use the ChatMask - Blur Chat & Privacy Screen Chrome Extension (the "Extension").
1. Information Collection and Use
We do not collect, transmit, distribute, or sell your data.
ChatMask is designed to operate entirely locally on your device (within your browser). The purpose of the Extension is to modify the CSS and UI styling of the web pages you visit (such as Facebook Messenger, Zalo, Telegram, etc.) to blur or hide chat contents for your personal privacy.
- No Personal Data Collected: The Extension does not read, copy, store, or transmit your messages, contacts, login credentials, or any personal information.
- No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use any third-party analytics, tracking codes, or crash reporting tools that send data to external servers.
2. Local Storage
The Extension uses your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) exclusively to save your personal preferences, such as:
- Blur intensity levels.
- Enabled/disabled status for specific websites.
- Your chosen trigger methods (e.g., hover, click) and Panic Mode settings.
- Your custom website whitelist.
This data is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to any server. It is only accessible by the Extension for the purpose of maintaining your settings between browser sessions.
3. Permissions Justification
To function properly, ChatMask requires the following browser permissions, and we use them strictly for their intended purposes:
- activeTab: Used to conditionally inject the blur script when you manually click the extension icon.
- scripting: Used to execute the blurring logic (JavaScript) onto the existing web pages.
- storage: Used to save your settings locally.
- Host Permissions (e.g., *://*.facebook.com/*, *://*.zalo.me/*, etc.): Required to automatically apply the privacy blur styles as soon as you open these specific supported chat websites. We only request access to the specific URLs where the Extension is designed to operate.
4. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
